Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

preussi Reichenow, 1892 - South-eastern Nigeria (Obudu Plateau), western Cameroon and Bioko I (Fernando Póo).
elgonensis (Sharpe, 1891) - Southern Sudan, eastern DRCongo, south-western Uganda, western Rwanda, western Burundi, and Mt Elgon (Uganda-Kenya border) and western Kenya (west of Rift Valley).
walleri (Shelley, 1880) - Kenyan Highlands east of Rift Valley, south through Tanzanian eastern Arc to northern Malawi.
