Range (Guide)

Kenya (B) (NB), Tanzania [United Republic of] (B) (NB).

Sokoke-Arabuku Forest in south-eastern Kenya, and north-eastern Tanzania (lowlands north of eastern Usambara Mts).

Population
Estimated population is 2,500 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation is the main threat.

Food
Mainly beetles.

Voice
A soft 'too too too', repeated 10 or more times per minute.

Subspecies
Probably forms superspecies with Sandy Scops-Owl (Otus icterorhynchus).

No subspecies.

Similar Species
African Barred Owlet (Glaucidium capense) which is much bigger with obviously barred, not vermiculated, underparts.
