Siberian Rubythroat (Calliope calliope) [XC674654]
by from Momskiy Natsional'nyy Ulus, Sakha Republic, Russian Federation (song, full song)
Subspecies
Sometimes placed in genus Erithacus. Vocalizations very similar to those of Himalayan Rubythroat (Calliope pectoralis), and apparent intermediacy of subspecies tschebaiewi of Himalayan Rubythroat (Calliope pectoralis) suggests that a single species may be involved. Geographical variation weak and clinal. Proposed eastern subspecies camtschatkensis and beicki considered unwarranted.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
calliope (Pallas, 1776) - Siberia to Japan; > to south-eastern Asia, Philippines and Palau Is.
