Eiao Island in the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia).
 
Status EX
Last seen in 1977 and presumed extinct. Extinction possibly due to predation by introduced rats and cats. Also introduction of Chestnut-breasted Mannikin (Lonchura castaneothorax) may also have contributed due to avian disease.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Pomarea iphis (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Iphis Monarch (Pomarea iphis) and Eiao Monarch (Pomarea fluxa) following Cibois et al. (2004).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Iphis Monarch (Pomarea iphis).
