North-eastern Venezuela, in Cordillera de Caripe and mountains of Paria Peninsula, Tobago.
Occurrence on Trinidad questionable. At present no definite records. Specimens collected in 1860, labelled “Trinidad” without exact locality data, may simply represent trade skins obtained on the island.
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat clearance for agriculture and pasture, repeated burning and understorey removal for coffee are the main threats.
