Breeds Lebanon, southern Syria, northern Israel and adjacent areas of Jordan; winters also south to north-eastern Egypt (Sinai), southern Jordan and northern Iraq.

Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat degradation through clearing, grazing and water abstraction is the main threat.
