Habitat
Open habitat, sparsely vegetated with short grass and scattered trees or bushes, particularly where grass has been severely grazed.
Botswana (B), South Africa (B).
South-eastern Botswana and South Africa (adjacent Northwest and Limpopo Provinces, in latter including isolated population on Polokwane Plateau).
 
Population
Estimated population is 50,000 - 99,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Voice
A short 'chreep-chuu-chree', uttered when perched in a tree. Display flight with descending whistle similar to long-billed larks.
