Subspecies
No subspecies.
Forms a superspecies with Tepui Whitestart (Myioborus castaneocapilla) and White-faced Whitestart (Myioborus albifacies), with Paria Whitestart (Myioborus pariae) presumably part of same group. Previously regarded as closest to, and possibly conspecific with, White-faced Whitestart (Myioborus albifacies), but recent phylogenetic study suggests that it may be more closely related to subspecies maguirei (and perhaps also duidae) of Tepui Whitestart (Myioborus castaneocapilla).
Similar Species
Slate-throated Whitestart (Myioborus miniatus) lacks white facial features and has dark throat.
