Subspecies
Formerly included in genus Caccabis; Caccabis hwanghoensis is a synonym. Forms superspecies with Rock Partridge (Alectoris graeca), Chukar (Alectoris chukar) and Philby's Partridge (Alectoris philbyi). Has been considered a subspecies of Rock Partridge (Alectoris graeca).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

magna (Przewalski, 1876) - Desolate regions of north-central China (Qinghai and Gansu).
lanzhouensis Liu, Huang & Wen, 2004 - Lanzhou Basin, central Gansu north-central China).
