Wet montane and elfin forest, and forest borders. From 2,200 - 3,200 m.

Range (Guide)

Venezuela (B).

Andes of western Venezuela (Trujillo, M�rida and Táchira).

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through deforestation, clearance for extensive cattle-ranching, agricultural colonisation, mining concessions and road-building, are the main threats.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Forms a monophyletic clade with Spectacled Whitestart (Myioborus melanocephalus) and Yellow-fronted Whitestart (Myioborus ornatus). Although range is virtually continuous with that of Yellow-fronted Whitestart (Myioborus ornatus), the two are separated by Tachira Valley and contact therefore unlikely. No hybrid or intermediate individuals have been found.
