Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 700 - 1,900 m.

Range (Guide)

Costa Rica (B), Panama (B).

Northern Costa Rica to western Panama, mainly on Pacific slope.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Often separated with Purple-throated Woodstar (Calliphlox mitchellii), and sometimes Bahama Woodstar (Nesophlox evelynae), in genus Philodice. In the past, occasionally placed with Bahama Woodstar (Nesophlox evelynae) in Nesophlox.

No subspecies.
