Subspecies
Sometimes placed in genus Prinia, but has shorter tail and distinctive song. Proposed subspecies harterti (from Libya) synonymized with saharae. Oman population placed in subspecies grisea, but may belong with striata.
The following 8 subspecies are recognised:
theresae Meinertzhagen, R, 1939 - Southern Morocco, western Sahara and Mauritania.
saharae (Loche, 1858) - Eastern Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya.
inquieta (Cretzschmar, 1827) - Egypt, Israel and northern Arabia east to Persian Gulf.
grisea Bates, 1936 - Western Saudi Arabia, eastern Yemen and Oman.
buryi Ogilvie-Grant, 1902 - Southern Saudi Arabia and western Yemen.
