Habitat
Rocky areas, caves, arable land. From 3,000 - 5,000 m, occasionally down to 750 m.
Afghanistan (B) (NB), Bhutan, China (mainland), India, Kyrgyzstan (B) (NB), Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia (Asian), Tajikistan, Turkmenistan.
Vagrant to Kazakhstan.
Unknown to Mongolia.
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Closely related to Rock Pigeon (Columba livia) and Hill Pigeon (Columba rupestris).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- leuconota Vigors, 1831 - Himalayas from western Afghanistan to Sikkim; in summer also occurs in Alay Mts and Pamirs in Tadjikistan.
- gradaria Hartert, 1916 - Mountains of eastern Tibet and from eastern Nan Shan (Qinghai) to Yunnan and extreme northern Myanmar.
