North-eastern, central and southern Brazil (Maranhão, Piauí and Pernambuco south to Mato Grosso do Sul and northern Rio Grande do Sul), northern and eastern Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz), north, central and eastern Paraguay (primarily east of R Paraguay) and north-eastern Argentina (south to eastern Formosa, eastern Chaco and Misiones, probably also Corrientes). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Western Black-tailed Tityra (Tityra cayana).
