Subspecies
Horsfield's Babbler (Malacocincla sepiaria) and Vanderbilt's Babbler (Malacocincla vanderbilti) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into Malacocincla sepiaria following Hoogerwerf (1966). Gender agreement of Malacocincla sepiaria follows David and Gosselin (2002a).
