Subspecies
Although often expanded to encompass Urocissa, present genus is distinctive in appearance of its members (the green magpies). This species forms a superspecies with Green Magpie (Cissa chinensis) and Yellow-breasted Magpie (Cissa hypoleuca), and sometimes treated as conspecific with Yellow-breasted Magpie (Cissa hypoleuca). Subspecies jefferyi well differentiated and has been considered a separate species. Further study, including molecular analysis, required.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
jefferyi (Temminck, 1826) - Northern Borneo from Mt Kinabalu south to Mt Murud, the Usan Apau plateau and Mt Dulit. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Bornean Green Magpie (Cissa jefferyi).
