Subspecies
Sometimes, especially in past, considered to include Buckley's Forest-falcon (Micrastur buckleyi).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
naso (Lesson, R, 1842) - North-central Mexico (Sinaloa to Tamaulipas) south through Central America to northern and western Colombia and Ecuador.
semitorquatus (Vieillot, 1817) - Eastern Colombia east to the Guianas, and south through eastern Peru, northern and eastern Bolivia and Brazil to Paraguay and northern Argentina.
