Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, pastureland, arable land.
Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Côte dIvoire, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Togo.
Vagrant to Mali.
Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Togo.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Formerly considered conspecific with Long-tailed Paradise-whydah (Vidua paradisaea), Broad-tailed Paradise-whydah (Vidua obtusa), Long-tailed Paradise-Whydah (Vidua interjecta) and Northern Paradise-Whydah (Vidua orientalis). More recently treated as conspecific with Long-tailed Paradise-whydah (Vidua paradisaea) alone, but molecular-genetic data indicate that it is sister to Long-tailed Paradise-Whydah (Vidua interjecta) and Northern Paradise-Whydah (Vidua orientalis).
