Habitat
Subtropical and tropical dry forest, dry savanna.

Range (Guide)
Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Côte dIvoire, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-bissau, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania [United Republic of], Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Vagrant to Mauritania, Rwanda.

Southern Senegal south to Sierra Leone and east to western Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and western Kenya, and from southern DRCongo, Rwanda, Burundi and western and southern Tanzania south to Angola, northern Namibia, northern Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and extreme north-eastern South Africa.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Sometimes considered to form a superspecies with Grey Cuckooshrike (Ceblepyris caesius), from which usually separated by altitude. They are perhaps better treated as forming a species group, because plumages are notably different.
