Locally from Senegambia east to Benin, and from Nigeria southern across Congo Basin and central Africa to Botswana, Mozambique and north-eastern South Africa; also south-eastern Sudan, Ethiopia, southern Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania; status in southern Mali, Burkina Faso and southern Niger unclear.
