Other Names (World)
Puerto Rican Oriole, Greater Antillean Oriole
Often treated as conspecific with Bahama Oriole (Icterus northropi), Cuban Oriole (Icterus melanopsis) and Puerto Rican Oriole (Icterus portoricensis), but molecular-genetic data indicate that they are better treated as separate species. Mitochondrial DNA indicates that present species is closely related to Martinique Oriole (Icterus bonana), St Lucia Oriole (Icterus laudabilis) and Montserrat Oriole (Icterus oberi).
