Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland dry shrubland and dry forest. From sea-level - 1,900 m, occasionally to 2,100 m.

Range (Guide)
Ecuador, Peru.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

     by id from Guayas: 2.3 km E Pacoa, Ecuador (call)

Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

  • parvistriatus Chapman, 1921   -  Western Ecuador from Manabí­ south to Guayas.
  • sclateri Taczanowski, 1877   -  South-western Ecuador (El Oro, Loja) and extreme north-western Peru.
  • porcullae Bond, J, 1954   -  North-western Peru from central Piura south to northern Lambayeque.
