Birds from Borneo, having different colour gloss on forehead of male, described as subspecies simplicior, possibly worthy of recognition.
Proposed subspecies xanthochlora (from Tenasserim, in southern Myanmar) and euthapsinus (Bunguran, in Natuna Is) considered indistinguishable from those elsewhere in range.
