Habitat
Subtropical and tropical dry shrubland and forest. From 350 - 2,800 m, occasionally up to 3,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Peru.

Western slope of central Andes in northern and central Peru.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Formerly placed in monospecific genus Thaumasius, or with Olive-spotted Hummingbird (Leucippus chlorocercus) and sometimes Many-spotted Hummingbird (Taphrospilus hypostictus) in Talaphorus.

Proposed subspecies fractus, from Huancabamba (northern Peru), doubtfully distinct.

No subspecies.
