Subspecies
Genus tentatively merged into Caprimulgus by one author, but this proposal has received very little support. Formerly placed in genus Lyncornis. Internal taxonomy requires further study.
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
bourdilloni Hume, 1875 - South-western India.
cerviniceps Gould, 1838 - Bangladesh and north-eastern India east to extreme southern China and south through Indochina to northern Malaysia.
jacobsoni Junge, 1936 - Simeulue I (off north-western Sumatra).
