Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Plain Prinia (Prinia inornata), Tawny-flanked Prinia (Prinia subflava) and River Prinia (Prinia fluviatilis).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

somalica (Elliot, 1897) - Northern Somalia.
erlangeri Reichenow, 1905 - South-eastern Sudan, southern Ethiopia, central Somalia, Kenya and extreme eastern Uganda.
