Range (Guide)

Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania [United Republic of], Uganda.

Southern Ethiopia, extreme south-eastern Sudan, southern Somalia, eastern Uganda, inland Kenya and north-eastern Tanzania.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Relationships uncertain; may be closest to Black-headed Batis (Batis minor) and/or Western Black-headed Batis (Batis erlangeri). Overlaps to a certain extent with Chinspot Batis (Batis molitor) and with Black-headed Batis (Batis minor), but not with East Coast Batis (Batis soror). Seems to occur lower down than Grey-headed Batis (Batis orientalis) on Mt Moroto (Uganda), and seemingly no overlap with this taxon in southern Ethiopia.

No subspecies.
