Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Livingstone's Turaco (Tauraco livingstonii), Schalow's Turaco (Tauraco schalowi), Knysna Turaco (Tauraco corythaix), Black-billed Turaco (Tauraco schuettii) and Green Turaco (Tauraco persa), a complex of allopatric forms formerly treated variably either as a single polytypic species or as three, five or six species.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
fischeri (Reichenow, 1878) - Southern Somalia, coastal Kenya (inland along R Tana to Bura), and north-eastern Tanzania from eastern Usambaras south to R Wami.
