Subspecies
Subspecies sometimes merged.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

leucocephalus Reichenow, 1879 - South-eastern Ethiopia, southern Somalia, south-eastern Kenya and adjacent area of north-eastern Tanzania.
turneri van Someren, 1919 - North-central Kenya (Seast of L Turkana and Marsabit south to Isiolo District).
