Habitat
Subtropical and tropical dry forest, dry savanna. From sea-level - 4,300 m.

Range (Guide)

Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda.

Ethiopia, Djibouti and northern Somalia to south-eastern Sudan, north-eastern Uganda and northern and north-western Kenya.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Most closely related to superspecies formed by Crowned Hornbill (Lophoceros alboterminatus), Bradfield's Hornbill (Lophoceros bradfieldi) and Congo Pied Hornbill (Lophoceros fasciatus). All have similar whistling calls and head-up display posture with wings closed. In past, birds of northern Kenya occasionally separated as subspecies exsul.
