Subspecies
Genus sometimes placed near Gubernetes and Muscipipra on basis of anatomical and morphological characters. Also, Polioxolmis and Cnemarchus have frequently been merged with this genus.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
striaticollis (Sclater, 1853) - Sierra de Perijá and western Andes of Venezuela and Colombia south to northern and central Peru (south to Apurímac and Arequipa).
pallidus von Berlepsch, 1906 - Eastern Andes in Peru (Cuzco, Puno), Bolivia and north-western Argentina (south to Tucumán).
