Vagrant to Afghanistan, Brunei Darussalam, Russia (European).
South-eastern Iran, Afghanistan (perhaps irregularly) and Pakistan through Nepal and India to south-central China (Yunnan), Indochina and northern Malay Peninsula.

Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with White-backed Vulture (Gyps africanus), with which sometimes considered conspecific.
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Indian Vulture (Gyps indicus) which has pale brown lesser and median coverts, dark brown remiges and pale brown, almost unstreaked, underparts.
