Subspecies
Genus closely related to Coeligena, and should perhaps be merged therein.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- cyanopterus (Fraser, 1839) - Eastern Andes of north-central Colombia (Santander, Cundinamarca).
- caeruleus Zimmer, JT, 1951 - Colombia, in central Andes (southern from Tolima) and extreme south-western Andes (Nariño).
- peruvianus Boucard, 1895 - Ecuador, Peru and northern Bolivia.
