Louette, 1981

Habitat
Mid-strata and canopy of semi-deciduous forest and primary evergreen lowland forest. From sea-level - 750 m.

Range (Guide)
Cameroon (B), Guinea (B), Liberia (B), Sierra Leone (B).

Unknown to Côte dIvoire (B), Ghana (B).

Sierra Leone, Liberia (Mt Nimba, Wonegizi Mts), south-western Ghana and south-western Cameroon; reports from Ivory Coast require confirmation.
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status NT
Habitat loss through logging, agricultural encroachment and mining, appear to be the main threats.

Voice
Song a series of about 13 clear, emphatic notes, slightly descending in pitch and slowing towards the end 'tuu-i tuu-i tuu-i tuu-i... tuu tuu tuu'.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Zenker's Honeyguide (Melignomon zenkeri), which it may meet in Cameroon.

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Other similar sized honeyguides have dark feet and tarsi. Zenker's Honeyguide (Melignomon zenkeri) which is darker overall, especially on underparts. Juvenile Yellow-whiskered Greenbul (Eurillas latirostris) which is similar and has bright yellow feet and part tarsi but lacks white outer tail feathers.
