Not recorded since 1918, but lowland forest of Sumatra has not been extensively surveyed. Habitat loss is the main threat.

Species name has often been misspelt "ruecki", based on an old but unjustified emendation. The original spelling does not include umlaut of collector's name.
Similar Species
Male White-tailed Flycatcher (Cyornis concretus) which is larger, has paler blue forehead, fringes to wing feathers and distinct white outer tail feathers. Female has white on breast sides and tail sides. Male Pale Blue-Flycatcher (Cyornis unicolor) which is paler blue with contrasting black lores. Female is duller brown on chest.
