by Peter de Rouw from Reserva Intillacta, Ecuador (alarm call)
Subspecies
Vocally similar to Black-faced Solitaire (Myadestes melanops) and Varied Solitaire (Myadestes coloratus), and all sometimes considered conspecific, but plumage differences argue for treatment as separate species. Subspecies plumbeiceps and venezuelensis doubtfully distinct.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
plumbeiceps Hellmayr, 1921 - Western Colombia and western Ecuador.
candelae Meyer de Schauensee, 1947 - North-central Colombia.
venezuelensis Sclater, PL, 1856 - Northern and western Venezuela southern in eastern Andes to northern Peru (north of R Marañón).
ralloides (D'Orbigny, 1840) - Peru (south of R Marañón) south to western and central Bolivia (south to Chuquisaca).
