Subspecies
Celeus spectabilis (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Rufous-headed Woodpecker (Celeus spectabilis) and Kaempfer's Woodpecker (Celeus obrieni) following SACC (2005).
Similar Species
Differs from Rufous-headed Woodpecker (Celeus spectabilis) in its plain yellow back and underparts rather than showing heavy black streaking.
