South-eastern Brazil. Formerly fairly widespread from S
Bahia south to north-eastern Rio de Janeiro; currently restricted to a few scattered
forest patches. One record from Bolivia repeatedly claimed to refer
to present species, but erroneously.
 
Population
Estimated population is 200 - 249 (2010) and decreasing.
