Subspecies
No subspecies.

Closely related to Rodrigues Warbler (Acrocephalus rodericanus) and both have been treated as representing a separate genus, Bebrornis, but more recent molecular and morphological data do not justify such distinction. Both species have sometimes been considered more closely related to Malagasy Nesillas, but they differ considerably in vocalizations and egg pattern. Genetic study suggests that both may be part of a monophyletic clade that also contains Greater Swamp-Warbler (Acrocephalus rufescens), Cape Verde Swamp-Warbler (Acrocephalus brevipennis), Lesser Swamp-Warbler (Acrocephalus gracilirostris) and Madagascar Swamp-Warbler (Acrocephalus newtoni), and all sometimes considered to comprise a separate genus, Calamocichla.
