Semi-arid (350 mm rainfall), open, grassy coastal plains with a few, small, scattered bushes.

Habitat destruction through coastal developments may be the main threat.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Singing Lark (Mirafra cantillans) and Pink-breasted Lark (Calendulauda poecilosterna) are less greyish and less marked on mantle. Former has thicker bill and latter has pinkish breast. Rufous-naped Lark (Mirafra africana) and Red-winged Lark (Mirafra hypermetra) are larger.
