Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through clearing and fire, shooting, pesticides and egg-collecting are possible threats.

Singly or in pairs.
Food
Birds, reptiles and small mammals.
Voice
Female has a harsh, strident, crowing call, 'arhk, arhk, awk'. Male, a higher pitched yelp. A staccato, high-pitched alarm call.

Nest
A large structure of sticks, lined with leaves, usually placed among the topmost branches of a tall tree.
Eggs (Guide)
1 - 2, usually 2; rough in texture, not glossy, blue-white, smeared with grey, brown or lavender; round-oval; 55 x 43 mm. Incubation: about 40 days; by female only.
Young
Semi-altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in 49 - 56 days.
Subspecies
Has been merged in Accipiter, but recent studies show it to be unrelated to that genus; now regarded as part of old endemic Australasian clade.
