Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Crimson-crowned Flowerpecker (Dicaeum nehrkorni), Buru Flowerpecker (Dicaeum erythrothorax), Ashy Flowerpecker (Dicaeum vulneratum), Olive-crowned Flowerpecker (Dicaeum pectorale), Louisiade Flowerpecker (Dicaeum nitidum), Red-banded Flowerpecker (Dicaeum eximium) and Red-capped Flowerpecker (Dicaeum geelvinkianum).

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

aeneum Pucheran, 1853 - Northern and central Solomons (Buka, Bougainville, Fauro, Shortland, Choiseul, Santa Isabel, New Georgia Is, Buena Vista, Florida Is).
becki Hartert, 1929 - Guadalcanal, in SW Solomons.
malaitae Salomonsen, 1960 - Malaita I, in eastern Solomons.
