Subspecies
Relationships uncertain. Recent DNA studies suggest possible sister relationship to Kulambangra Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus amoenus). Previously thought to form a superspecies with Sulawesi Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus sarasinorum), Timor Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus presbytes), Mountain Warbler (Phylloscopus trivirgatus) and San Cristobal Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus makirensis), but this is not supported by findings from recent molecular-genetic studies. Birds discovered on Taliabu (Sula Is), in Sept 1991, may represent a hitherto undescribed subspecies. Detailed review required.

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Numfor Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus maforensis).
