Subspecies
Probably forms a species group with Mangrove Gerygone (Gerygone levigaster) and Western Gerygone (Gerygone fusca).

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

citrina Mayr, 1931 - Rennell, in south-eastern Solomons. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Rennell Gerygone (Gerygone citrina).
correiae Mayr, 1931 - Banks Is and northern Vanuatu.
rouxi (Sarasin, 1913) - Ouvea, in northern Loyalty Is.
lifuensis (Sarasin, 1913) - Lifou, in central Loyalty Is.
flavolateralis (Gray, 1859) - New Caledonia and southern Loyalty Is (Mare).
