Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Black-mantled Goshawk (Accipiter melanochlamys), White-bellied Goshawk (Accipiter haplochrous) and Fiji Goshawk (Accipiter rufitorques).

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

eichhorni Hartert, 1926 - Feni Is (Bismarcks).
woodfordi (Sharpe, 1888) - Northern, eastern and southern Solomons.
albogularis Gray, 1870 - San Cristobal, Santa Ana (Solomons).
gilvus Mayr, 1945 - Central Solomons.
sharpei (Oustalet, 1875) - Santa Cruz Is.
