Subspecies
Affinities within genus uncertain; may be closest to Two-banded Warbler (Myiothlypis bivittata) and/or Golden-bellied Warbler (Myiothlypis chrysogaster). Subspecies apparently intergrade in south-western Ecuador (south-eastern Guayas).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
ochraceicrista (Chapman, 1921) - Western Ecuador.
fraseri Sclater, 1884 - South-western Ecuador and adjacent north-western Peru.
