Population
Estimated population is unknown (2011).
Status DD
Habitat loss through logging and clearance of forest for agriculture is the main threat.

Subspecies
Micromacronus leytensis (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Visayan Miniature Babbler (Micromacronus leytensis) and Mindanao Miniature Babbler (Micromacronus sordidus) following Collar (2006).
Formerly treated as conspecific with Mindanao Miniature Babbler (Micromacronus sordidus).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Female Lovely Sunbird (Aethopyga shelleyi) which is tiny but has a longer, slightly decurved bill and lacks erectile feathers, and at higher altitudes with Siberian Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus trivirgatus) which is slightly larger and lacks the erectile feathers.
