Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest, lowland dry grassland.
Papua New Guinea (B) (NB).
Bougainville in Papua New Guinea.

Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Predation by introduced rats and cats appears to be the main threat.

Voice
A clear, melodic whistle of one or two notes, followed by a much higher-pitched note.
Nest
In niches in a steep sided creek bed, composed of roots and tree ferns, lined with plaer fibers.
Subspecies
No subspecies.
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Santo Thicketbird (Megalurulus whitneyi).
