Montane gallery forest.

Cuba (B).

Eastern Cuba.
 
Population
Estimated population is 50 - 249 (2010) and decreasing.

Status CR
Habitat destruction and alteration caused by logging and agricultural conversion are the main threats.

Food
Mainly tree snails and slugs in the understorey.

Subspecies
Chondrohierax uncinatus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Hook-billed Kite (Chondrohierax uncinatus) and Cuban Kite (Chondrohierax wilsonii) following Stotz et al. (1996).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Hook-billed Kite (Chondrohierax uncinatus).

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus) which has a shorter tail and unbarred underwings.
