Subspecies
Possibly conspecific with Northern Bobwhite (Colinus virginianus).
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
- persiccus van Tyne & Trautman, 1941 - Progreso area of Yucatán, south-eastern Mexico.
- caboti van Tyne & Trautman, 1941 - Northern Campeche, Yucatán (except Progreso area) and northern Quintana Roo, south-eastern Mexico.
- nigrogularis (Gould, 1843) - Belize and northern Guatemala.
- segoviensis Ridgway, 1888 - Eastern Honduras and north-eastern Nicaragua.
